METH MEASURE BOUND FOR GOVERNOR
Tyler Morning Telegraph: "The state Legislature on Thursday sent state Rep. Leo Berman's omnibus methamphetamine bill to Gov. Rick Perry.
Berman, a Tyler Republican, says the measure was a year in the making. The measure regulates the sale of a methamphetamine ingredient and stiffens penalties for production of the drug.
'As of Aug. 1, 2005, products containing solid forms of ephedrine and pseudoephedrine will be removed from the shelves of every store in the state, and will be sold only in stores with pharmacies,' explained Berman, who is confident of the governor's support for the bill. 'In counties with no pharmacies or very few pharmacies, the bill allows a permitting process to allow non-pharmacies to sell the products.'
To obtain cold and allergy medications with those ingredients, Texans will have to request the product, show identification, and sign for it in a logbook that will be kept for two years."
