Millions of $$ donated for governor's race in 10-day stretch

News 8 Austin | 24 Hour Local News | LOCAL NEWS | Millions of $$ donated for governor's race in 10-day stretch: "Gov. Rick Perry and his rival Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn reported they raised a combined $3.8 million for their campaigns.

The time frame is a 10-day stretch in late June.

The two will face off in the March 2006 Republican gubernatorial primary. Perry's campaign raised $2.3 million in the period that ended June 30, giving it about $8.4 million on hand.

Strayhorn's camp raised $1.5 million in the reporting period, making for $7 million in the bank.

One Democrat who is considering running for governor is former U.S. Representative Chris Bell of Houston, who reported raising $152,653.

But raising even more money than Bell was musician and author Kinky Friedman, who has reported raising $301,471. Friedman is running as an independent."
