Can We Stop a Storm?

Can We Stop a Storm?: "Hurricanes cause millions and millions of dollars of damage. So what if we took those millions and tried to figure out how to damage a hurricane first?

In the 60's, the government started seeding storm clouds with dry ice trying to cool the warm moist air that fuels a hurricane. Jason Beaman with the National Weather Service says, 'Everything was really inconclusive regarding the cloud seeding back in the 60's. And there is no real strong evidence that it made any effect.'

But that doesn't keep people from trying... like the scientist who recently suggested that windmills might blow a hurricane back to sea. Or the M-I-T scientist who feels jet engines could be the key. He wants to put 20 jet engines on a barge in the projected path of a hurricane. Pointed skyward, he believes the updraft would create a tropical storm... cooling the water and sapping the approaching hurricane of its strength. Beaman doubts it saying, 'In one hour they put out as much energy as several atomic bombs. So the idea of trying to modify a hurricane, there has been no specific evidence that we can do so at this time....U-S Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison introduced a bill this year to pump 10 million dollars into new research into controlling the weather.'"

Interesting. I'm not surprised that KBH thinks she can control the weather.
