Editorial: Don't let lawmakers call session a success
MySA.com: Editorials: "'Each day that passes without a school finance bill represents another day of uncertainty for our schools and another day Texans must live under a property tax system gone awry.'
Gov. Rick Perry,
State of the State speech, Jan. 27
When the state's three top leaders — Gov. Rick Perry, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and House Speaker Tom Craddick — declare this legislative session a success, don't believe a word of it.
As the old saying goes, they are trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
More directly, they are trying to make the best of a huge failure — the failure to address the two major issues they faced this legislative session: school finance reform and tax reform.
That they would even try to paper over such a disaster is offensive."
