Common Sense: Perry threatens legislators with a special session
Common Sense: Perry threatens legislators with a special session: "Stand back, I've got the constitutional power to call a special session, and I know how to use it.
At least that's how I interpreted this Selby story in the Statesman today. He is possibly looking for a way to ease political problems over his lack of leadership and the failure to pass school finance reform... again! A special session where something gets done would go a long way to repairing his poll numbers.
This phrase:
Otherwise, he said, legislators 'should make plans for a long and uncomfortable summer when they go home' to face constituents and tell them that they did not approve education reform or a swap of billions of dollars in state taxes for cuts in local school property taxes.
has caused a lot of people to suppose that it could be sooner rather than later when a special session is called. Rep. Aaron Pena wrote in his blog, maybe the end of this month."
