A timeline for military base closings
MySA.com: AP Wire: "The following is a schedule for the upcoming round of military base closings."
I'm posting lots of stories about BRAC. But I think this, along with what the Lege does about school finance, will be the two biggest Texas political stories of the year.
While Texas was a net gainer in jobs, due to a large influx to Fort Bliss in El Paso, there are a large number of Texas communities that will feel significant pain. The voters of those communities will voice their anger--largely by voting the rascals out. Mayors, councilmen, state and federal legislators will all pay a price if these closings go through. And being Texas, many if not most of those politicians will be Republicans.
