Lawmakers to seek repeal of Wright Amendment

Star-Telegram | 05/26/2005 | Lawmakers to seek repeal: "he gloves are coming off like never before in the fight over whether to scrap the Wright Amendment.

Today, Rep. Sam Johnson, R-Plano, and Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Dallas, are scheduled to introduce a bill, the Right to Fly Act, which would repeal the 1979 law designed to protect Dallas/Fort Worth Airport by limiting long-haul flights out of Dallas Love Field.

Although efforts to scrap the amendment have been attempted for years, it's a new wrinkle to have North Texas congressmen lead the charge. Johnson and Hensarling have made no secret of their opposition to the Wright Amendment, but this is the first time that any area members of Congress have filed legislation seeking its repeal."
