Late start sneaks up on schools

DallasNews.com | News for Dallas, Texas | Texas Legislature: "School districts hate it, and parents are lukewarm. So why are Texas lawmakers pushing for all schools to start classes the day after Labor Day?

One major reason: The tourism industry loves it."

Teachers don't count. Kids don't count. Parents don't count. We just have to make sure that Six Flags and Wally's Water World sell more tickets. That's the way to show we're not afraid of terrorism. And if your kid drops out we'll always have a job for him (at market wages) scraping gum at Wally's Water World. You've got to love a GOP controlled house, senate, and Guv's office. Welcome to the the United Corporation of America.
