University chiefs say funding bid will go on

MySA.com: Metro | State: "Officials with both the University of Texas and Texas A&M systems vowed this week to keep seeking funding for key projects after legislators failed to approve millions to get them off the ground.

University of Texas at San Antonio President Ricardo Romo said he hopes Gov. Rick Perry will call a special session and that tuition revenue bonds, the funding mechanism for construction projects, will be on the agenda.

'It is urgently needed,' Romo said of a special session. 'That's the only way we'll realize any funding for our facilities.'

The state Legislature gave public universities a roughly 8 percent boost in funding for operations but appropriated no money for new building and maintenance projects."
