2 more dead in Laredo despite special forces

DallasNews.com | News for Dallas, Texas | Latest News: "Despite more than 1,000 federal troops and special forces patrolling the streets, two more killings were reported Tuesday in this border town, underscoring the tough task the government faces three days into an operation to curb violence here.

At the same time, some residents launched efforts to redefine what has come to be considered normal in their community.

A Tamaulipas state government spokesman confirmed the deaths of an unidentified 29-year-old man shot late Monday night just blocks from the police station and another unidentified male burned alive Tuesday morning with a tire wrapped around him, in a practice known in South Africa as “necklacing.”

“Two more executed,” blared a newspaper headline."
