Most doubt Legislature's school plan will be fair to Texas pupils
El Paso Times Local news: "Most El Pasoans don't think legislators in Austin will come up with a fair plan to pay for public education in Texas, an El Paso Times/KVIA-ABC 7 Poll found.
The poll asked 302 registered voters in El Paso whether they thought an equitable formula for funding schools would be enacted this year. Sixty-four percent said no.
'Our people are right,' said state Sen. Eliot Shapleigh, D-El Paso. 'Even after all the taxes, the money for our schools is not adequate to pay teachers what they deserve, reduce class size, put technology in the classroom and truly educate our children.'
