LEGISLATURE MAY RESUME SETTING COLLEGES' TUITION
Tyler Morning Telegraph: "The Texas Legislature could start setting tuition rates at public universities again in 2008 under a bill tentatively approved Tuesday by the Senate.
The measure was added to a bill that would require Texas universities to meet performance requirements before setting large tuition increases.
'What the bill does is require the Texas Higher Education Board to study the effects of tuition deregulation,' said state Sen. Kevin Eltife, R-Tyler. 'It will require the Legislative Oversight Committee to make a recommendation. If no action is taken, then on Sept. 1, 2008, we regulate tuition again.'"
