DentonRC.com | News for Denton, Texas | AP: Texas: "Only Texans who make more than $140,000 a year would see a net tax cut under a school funding plan the Senate is considering, according to a new legislative study.

Everyone else would see a net increase in the taxes they pay if the Legislature approves a plan designed to offset school property taxes with a bevy of new levies on shoppers, smokers, drinkers and businesses.

Just after the study was released, the first part of a package to revamp school funding seemed stalled in the Senate, where it had been expected to get a vote Monday."
