The People's Republic of Seabrook: It's a bit early to be circling the wagons, eh?: "The 2006 Texas Gubernatorial election is 13 months away, and it appears that Kinky Friedman’s campaign is, depending on your point of of view, either
a) suffering some serious growing pains, or
b) running on fumes.
Of course, every candidate deserves the opportunity to take a step back, reassess his efforts to date, and refocus the campaign as and where needed. Doing this, though, opens a candidate up to some serious second guessing. Is his campaign viable? Can he attract the media attention and money needed to attract votes? By changing tack now, is he merely staving off the inevitable demise of what many view as a vanity campaign?
Friedman’s biggest problem so far is ensuring that he can even get on the ballot. The standard that has to be met is certainly doable, but Texas doesn’t go out of it’s way to make it easy for a third-party candidate to get their name on the ballot."
