School finance reform stalls if Craddick boycotts
HoustonChronicle.com - Robison: School finance reform stalls if Craddick boycotts: "THERE may be, as Gov. Rick Perry has been hinting, a special legislative session on school finance this summer, but I won't be convinced until Speaker Tom Craddick is convinced.
Unless Craddick, in essence, gets to dictate a deal on school funding and property tax relief, I fully expect the Capitol to be overrun with tourists the next couple of months, not with legislators and lobbyists.
So far, even with all the headlines and editorials about the regular session's failure on education, Craddick doesn't share the sense of urgency communicated by Perry and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst.
And if Craddick doesn't come on board, it would be pointless (and risky) for Perry to call lawmakers back to Austin. He simply would be inviting the third defeat on school finance during his administration."
