Common Sense: Think of the children!: "The Statesman is reporting that there is a bit of a problem in the Senate with its version of school financing legislation. In what was already a crisis, new numbers released by the comptroller's office literally stopped the bill in its tracks. The numbers showed reduced funds for Dallas and Houston area schools. The senators from those areas balked; they were not about to go home after the session and say 'Good news everybody. We found a way to have less money for education while raising taxes for everybody who makes less than $140, 000 a year!'
