Committee OKs gay marriage ban
DallasNews.com | News for Dallas, Texas | Texas Legislature: "A Senate committee on Friday approved a proposed constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.
The measure next moves to the full Senate, but it could face a deadly hurdle there. Sen. Juan 'Chuy' Hinojosa, D-McAllen, hassaid he has enough support to block the legislation from a full Senate debate. The committee approved the bill on a 6-2 vote.
Texas law already prohibits same-sex marriages. The legislation would allow voters to decide whether to safeguard that law from judicial challenges by amending the state constitution to define marriage as between one man and one woman."
