Hutchison likes her job in Senate
DentonRC.com | News for Denton, Texas | AP: Texas: "t held the promise of classic Lone Star politics: former University of Texas cheerleader Kay Bailey Hutchison was to square off against former Texas A&M yell leader Gov. Rick Perry in a rock'em sock'em campaign in the Republican gubernatorial primary.
A two-term U.S. Sen. who polls well, Hutchison figured to be a heady challenge for Perry, who has struggled during his first full term to lead lawmakers to solve a school funding crisis.
Yet late Friday, Hutchison abruptly abandoned any plans for the Gov.'s Mansion, opting instead for a run at another six-year Senate term. An e-mail from her campaign manager said Hutchison would explain her decision at a June 27 news conference.
Although Hutchison has yet to discuss her decision in detail, advisers to her campaign told The Associated Press on Saturday that Hutchison simply likes being a senator and wants to stay in Washington, where she keeps rising on the leadership ladder.
Hutchison's advisers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said she huddled with a small group of supporters Friday afternoon before making the announcement."
