Star-Telegram | 05/20/2005 | Put on your thinking cap: "Rick Perry, Texas' chief executive, has pushed hard for legislative approval of gimmicky property tax caps although they actually would result in higher property tax bills for many homeowners and would make the appraisal system less equitable.

Perry has relentlessly promoted tax caps -- which, fortunately, appear dead in the current legislative session -- for pure political gain. He could face a tough GOP primary race for governor next spring, with popular U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison among his potential challengers."
