Watching elected officials swoop down on Texarkana in its hour of economic misery has been an informative exercise in politics. And it's raised a couple of eyebrows, too.

Texarkana and the surrounding area, being isolated way up in the northeast corner of Texas and down in the southwest corner of Arkansas, often don't see politicians-elected or prospective-unless it's campaign season and they want to raise their profile in this area. In other words, we don't see them much unless they want something from us, generally our votes or our support for legislation of one form or another."
